Robert Greenleaf, the visionary who coined the term “servant-leader,” profoundly said, “The servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first, and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible.” These words resonate deeply with the essence of true leadership, for me.
In the realm of organizations, Greenleaf believed that if we could make our systems more understanding, loving, creative, and selfless (others-oriented), we could truly change the world. 🌍
✨ The beauty of servant leadership lies in its simplicity and depth. It’s about the collective putting purpose above individual passions, feelings, and gains. In a genuine servant organization, everyone strives for something greater than themselves. Every leader is an individual, and every individual is a leader; we have to believe it and choose kindness and positivity over negativity and self-interest.
Make choices to be kind and productive with your words. If you must make assumptions, make them positive; don’t think the worst of others. If you are treated poorly, don’t take it personally—there’s no need to make yourself suffer. Reframe and engage the person with empathy, and trust that something bigger than you impacts that person’s world. ✨
One of my favorite quotes by C.S. Lewis, which I look at every day, reminds me of why I do my work: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.” Let’s embody this spirit in our attitudes and behaviors in all aspects of our lives. All we can truly do is commit to always doing our best. 💡💪
